Bennett Brothers

Recording live presents a multitude of challenges and obstacles, but I learned that if you can exercise some control of the environment and stay flexible, you can make a good record. (It's also helpful when the band turns in a first-class performance like these guys.)

Bennett Brothers,
Live at the Artichoke

In the bluegrass family-band tradition, these guys have sung together since they were grandbabies. A longtime favorite of the Walnut Valley Festival, they've recorded plenty of records over their long tenure, but none they liked much. They recorded this record with a sense of legacy, and it could easily have been a portrait of a band that once was. Instead, this is a vital and current accounting of a great bluegrass band hitting its stride.

This record was recorded live, on location at The Artichoke Sandwich Bar with a small invitation-only audience. It was recorded with a Mackie board and way too many SM-57s.
All songs were done in one take.
